Your energy level depends greatly on how you are using your body. Your muscles have a tendency to accumulate tension because of the stress and mental pressure you experience. A lot of people get so used to this tension in their body that they don't really remember how it is to feel relaxed and full of energy.
Such condition causes you to feel even more stress and fatigue; you spend more time performing your daily tasks with less productivity, and cannot start your day without a strong cup of coffee. If this sounds familiar to you, don't worry, you can easily fix this. What you need is a simple technique that will help you relax your body, relax all your tense muscles, which in its turn will release a huge amount of energy that was used to maintain this unnatural state.
Now, take another deep breath and tense all your body muscles, especially neck and shoulders as these are usually the ones that need relaxation the most. Don't forget your face and even your eye muscles. After 2-5 seconds let go and exhale. Now take a breath and tense your feet. Let go and relax. Do the same with your ankles, calves, knees, thighs, hips, butt, abs, chest, back, hands and arms, shoulders, your neck, your face, eyes and even the back of your head. Spend up to 5 seconds to tense and relax each group of muscles. After you finish you will feel very relaxed and will easily fall asleep.
In the morning, as soon as you wake up, stretch nicely, and then repeat everything you did the night before. It will give you a great start for the day. Stretch again. Now you can get up, fully refreshed and energized.
You may wonder how tensing your muscles can help you when they are already tense enough to give you some trouble. Well, here's an example. If you drink coffee, you know that after 1, 2 and sometimes even 3 cups you feel more energized and your mood improves. But if you drink too much coffee, you start feeling even more tired and sluggish than before the first cup. Quite a paradox, but that's how it is.
In a similar way, when you are tensing your muscles, you overwork them, they get tired and relax. The reason you can do it so easily is because your muscles are already working on the edge of their possibilities (you cannot even imagine how much energy goes into maintaining that muscle strain) and a little bit more tension leaves them no other choice but to relax. You will feel the results on the very first day after performing this exercise. It is very easy to remember the contrast of your tight muscles before the exercise and how relaxed they feel after it. Muscle memory is incredibly strong and will make it a lot easier for you to reach a very relaxed state of muscles the next time you do the exercise.
The benefits of this little exercise are great. You will feel the results almost immediately, and if you continue with it you will notice that your energy level has increased, your mood will be better than it usually is, you will feel easier about a lot of daily problems that used to irritate you before, you will cope with stress better and you will just feel good. Don't be discouraged by the simplicity of this technique. If you don't believe that you can have all the benefits it offers in just 5 minutes a day, well, then don't believe. Just try it and see for yourself, it definitely is worth those 5 minutes.
